Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation
Certificate III in Outdoor Leadership
Certificate IV in Outdoor Leadership
Diploma of Outdoor Leadership

The new qualifications in Outdoor Recreation and Outdoor Leadership were released in September 2019 and they are in full effect by March 2021. These qualifications had a long time to come into fruition to ensure the industry got the best possible outcome and fortunately the timing of the development of the new qualifications aligned neatly with the development of the Australian Adventurous Activity Standards.

Registered Training Organisations are now working together and involving the wider industry to ensure that these qualifications are implemented effectively. Follow up work has been initiated with Universities to recognise relevant alignments.

Participants of the National Outdoor Education Conference will learn about the adventurous journey that resulted in the current qualifications, the in-field activity of implementing and delivering the qualifications to the new entrants into the industry, the potential pathways that participants can follow and the resultant reflections of using these learnings for further growth.

Jeffrey Lehrer and Liz Horne both have long affiliations with outdoor education and have worked together with a host of other outdoor professionals over the last few years to review and develop new nationally recognised qualifications.

About OEA and Outdoors NSW

Outdoor Education Australia (OEA)  was established in 2006 as a national network of outdoor education associations. The organisation facilitates communication between state and territory outdoor education associations about the practice and delivery of outdoor education; advocates for outdoor education across primary, secondary and tertiary education; and provides policy advice.

Outdoors NSW is the go-to place for all things outdoors in NSW.

The peak body for the outdoors in NSW, the organisation, (formerly known as ORIC), represents the outdoor community, advances outdoor standards, safety and practices, and fosters greater participation in the outdoors.
